Toronto, ON [June 13, 2012] — Guidestones, the critically-acclaimed interactive thriller produced by iThentic and 3 o’clock.tv, has won a prestigious ‘Rockie” Award in the Web Series “Fiction” category at the Banff World Media Festival. Accepting the award was Executive Producer, Jonas Diamond.
The news caps off a busy week for the Guidestones team. A new 34-episode “on-demand” version of the web series was launched on Hulu in the US on Monday. This, in addition to the 50-episode “push” version, which viewers can now subscribe to via a new Facebook application.
“We are thrilled to receive this award,” said Jonas Diamond. “GUIDESTONES shows that an engaging story well told can reach an audience no matter what the platform.”
“It feels great to be honored by our peers,” said Jay Ferguson. “We are happy that GUIDESTONES has found a dedicated and engaged audience and that we will be reaching an even larger audience via Hulu and our other distribution channels.”
Unlike most web series, Guidestones was created in two versions: the first, a 50-episode “push” version, was launched in February at http://guidestones.org, and asks viewers to enter their email address in order to receive episodes in ‘real-time’, thus experiencing the events of the series in the same time frame as the characters.
The second is a newly launched, 34-episode “on-demand” version, which allows viewers to experience the series at their own pace through a variety of distribution channels, including the Guidestones website, Facebook and Hulu.
Guidestones was created and directed by Jay Ferguson and produced by Executive Producers Jonas Diamond and Catherine Tait of iThentic. The series takes viewers deep inside the mystery of the Georgia Guidestones, a mysterious monument nestled in a farmer’s field in rural Georgia that is inscribed with directions for rebuilding civilization after the apocalypse. By following clues hidden in each episode, viewers can solve the mystery of the Guidestones, along with the main characters, in a race against time that crosses two continents and three countries.
Critical acclaim for Guidestones has been unanimous with Wired.com calling it a project that will “…raise the bar for the web series genre”. Guidestones has been chosen as an Official Selection to the 2012 Marseille Web Fest in France, and was a finalist for the “Digital Launch Pad” award also at the Banff World Media Festival.
Guidestones stars newcomers Supinder Wraich and Dan Fox and stage/screen actors David Fox and Rosemary Dunsmore. The series was produced by 3‘oclock.tv and iThentic in association with the Independent Production Fund (IPF) and the Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC), and with help from corporate and organizational sponsors: Pizza Pizza, Coca-Cola, Samsung, Major League Baseball, Karbon, William F. White Intl. and ACTRA.
The Banff World Media Awards — affectionately known as ‘The Rockies’ — are an internationally- recognized awards program celebrating the very best in international content production in television and digital media.
